Articles of Confederation

In this video the speaker does a great job at highlighting the key points of the Articles of Confederation. One of the main things I gathered was that the Articles of Confederation really was a great idea but just have a lot of speed bumps on the way. The point was to split up the power and give both the Federal Government as well as the states equal power to do what they please within reason. It was important that each state have the same amount of power as the other. Despite thing being fair in that aspect, it created a problem because they had to have 9 out of the 13 agree on something in order for it to be passed which was virtually impossible. Not including the fact that 13 out of the 13 had to agree in order to amend something. This was a hard thing to face and ultimately it caused a need for some changes to be made. The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 was a document that granted other provinces or areas the ability to join the United States. This was a good thing because the U. S had the chance to grow. There were a lot of problems with the Articles because there was no president in place, no government and no court system. Ultimately those things would be the things that destroyed the movement of The Articles of Confederation.
